President Obama approves $19 billion for government IT upgrades!

This is a solid move by the President as we all know, especially the hackers, that government systems are not adequately secured and run legacy operating systems. The decision will be made by Congress and hopefully they realize the gravity of this request, because if not taken seriously, the information of the government and citizens could be in great danger.

To put this in a larger perspective, the government operates legacy systems. Those systems are very complex to run which requires lots of man hours to operate. However, in today’s environment, the applications run a lot thinner which will certainly lead to cut backs and an offsetting of fund allocation.

In short, while the $19 billion may seem like a lot, once they retire legacy systems and integrate unified agile systems, the support and maintenance cost could offset the $19 billion.
